ARRIVE IN CAPE TOWN

Accommodation:  African Pride 15 on Orange, deluxe room – 5 nights

On arrival at Cape Town airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel for overnight the next five nights on a bed and breakfast basis.

With its majestic Table Mountain backdrop, Cape Town is one of the most beautiful and exciting cities in the world; an eclectic mix of architectural styles reflects the tastes and dictates of the past and the more functional demands of the 20th Century. Cobblestone streets, mosques and the flat roofed pastel homes of the Malay quarter enhance a cosmopolitan ambience and in a recent development, the restoration of the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront evokes images of the seafaring activities of the 19th century. At the end of the day, gourmets and lovers of sophisticated entertainment have a treat in store as the choice for your evening's repast is vast.

Strategically located in the cultural hub of Cape Town, African Pride 15 On Orange Hotel offers an experience of sensual sophistication and style, combining distinctive architecture and exquisite luxury. The Hotels ideal location means that guests are near the National museum, Planetarium and Company Gardens as well as world class restaurants. African Pride 15 On Orange Hotel has 129 accentuated bedrooms and suites ranging between 40 and 70 square meters, 430 and 750 square feet. Throughout each of the exquisitely appointed rooms, no detail is spared to ensure optimum comfort and luxury. Sandblasted glass doors lead into your opulent en-suite bathroom that features an oversized bath.

DAY 2

TABLE MOUNTAIN & CITY TOUR  (Breakfast)

This morning, enjoy breakfast at the hotel before you are picked up for your half day Table Mountain and city tour.  Take a cable car up Table Mountain (subject to weather).  After visit the Castle (closed on Sunday) and Company’s Garden.  Drive by the Houses of Parliament, City Hall and Slave Lodge. Visit the Malay Quarter & the colourful neighborhood of the Bo Kaap.  Enjoy a complimentary diamond workshop tour and return to your hotel with the afternoon at leisure.

DAY 3

ROBBEN ISLAND  (Breakfast & Dinner)

This morning you will enjoy a Robben Island tour (9am weather dependent).  Transfer to the V&A Waterfront - walk to the ferry terminal at Nelson Mandela Gateway with your guide.  The standard tour to Robben Island is 3.5 hours long, including the two half-hour ferry rides.  Please note that Robben Island has implemented a new procedure for all passengers booked on the Robben Island tour.  Guests are required to show proof of passport/ ID and fill out an indemnity form before boarding the vessel to Robben Island.  They may bring copies of Identification should they wish to rather keep the original at the hotel.

From the 17th to the 20th centuries, Robben Island served as a place of banishment, isolation and imprisonment. Today it is a World Heritage Site and museum, a poignant reminder to the newly democratic South Africa of the

price paid for freedom.  It is important for all visitors to experience all phases of the Island, to realize that the Island is a place of pain and a place of triumph and victory. The island tour discusses these themes as well as the detention and isolation of insane females, people with leprosy and prisoners, including African chiefs in the 1800’s. The Prison tour depicts the lives of political prisoners detained from the 1960’s to 1991. Former Robben Island prisoners conduct the tour.

The Robben Island Tour includes:  A return boat trip across Table Bay, a visit to the infamous Maximum Security Prison, interaction with an ex-political prisoner, a 45-minute bus ride with a guide providing commentary, the opportunity to explore the Murray's Bay Harbour precinct attractions, such as the Muslim shrine, or kramat, and the Museum Shop.

The afternoon is at leisure.  Tonight, enjoy a special dinner with return transfers included. The drums of Angola and the Congo beat an invitation. The feet of the Xhosa and Congolese dancers tell the story of Africa. The unaccompanied singers sing songs from all over the continent. It is this soup of African influences which welcome you to Gold – the Cape Town restaurant with a difference.  Located in the heart of Strand Street, the inviting venue opens its arms to local and international guests every day for dinner which features the full African food journey through southern and central Africa. Add to this a healthy dose of Cape Malay cuisine and you have the freshest, most interestingly African menu in the Cape. Between sampling a wide range of starters and the superb selection of main dishes, each with their own African or Malay tradition but served with the chef’s modern day twist, the dancers and drummers slowly cajoled the diners into a unique dinner experience. The interactive djembe drumming and acapella singing of the highest quality ultimately had the most reserved of guests either on the dance floor or singing along to the infectious rhythms.
